I love how this captures the Kirby dynamic but doesn't look like an imitation. This has the structure with merely aping the style. VERY nice.

There's aping a style and then there's letting it influence you. I subscribe to the latter as it's really the only thing that I'm capable of doing. Otherwise I would have drawn like JIM LEE long ago and cashed in. :\

this is really incredible, man. If you call this "trying" to do something done, well I think it cam out great.

I myself dig the faded ziptone in the text. I do see what he means by saying it doesn't fit. In my opinion, it's out-of-place because it needs to be tied in a little better.

Throwing a little ziptone on the southern faces of those buildings or on the lowlit parts of the monster would pull the effect together in the piece over all.

Zip-a-tone always reminds me of Wally Wood. Something I'll probably use on a different project. For now it'll probably get ixnayed.

I like this a lot! The one problem is with the word 'Unix'. The font doesn't look like it belongs in this retro piece of art. I think it might be the zip fade that's throwing me off.
